Hyderabad: Syed Mehmood Ashraf, senior leader of the ruling party JDU in Bihar, passed away in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He had been undergoing treatment for liver disease at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterologists in Hyderabad for over a month.
In the last Lok Sabha polls, he was contested by Kishan Ganj. Mahmood Ashraf’s older son, Syed Amir Jilani, said that the body will be transported from Hyderabad to Purnia.
The body will be arriving from Shamsabad Airport in Hyderabad tomorrow morning at Bagdogra Airport in Bihar. At 4 o’clock, a funeral prayer will be offered and burial will take place in the Abei village of Bari.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his deep grief over the news of his death. In his message, he expressed his condolences to the bereaved family members of the untimely death of Mahmood Ashraf. Akhtar-ul-Aiman, president of the All India Majlis-e-Islami Bihar unit, also expressed regret.
In his condolence message, he said that Mahmood Ashraf was an ardent leader of the Simanchal. He added that Semanchal lost one of the best leaders today.
