Okhla, New Delhi: 52 Rohingya Muslim refugee families living in Kanchan Kunj jhuggis (makeshift huts) of Okhla area of Delhi, are asking Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to listen to their plight and let them live here in peace as a government patwari is destroying their jhuggis.
Even though he has no orders or legal right to do so, he has been threatening these families and has on many occasions got some of them beaten up and even jailed. Now he is breaking their huts to drive them out.
The refugee families are already living in very poor conditions and in this harsh Delhi winter their troubles have compounded. Their children are are suffering from poor health and many diseases.
They do not even have enough warm clothing, proper electricity and water supply.
Their only hope is now Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Question is will Delhi CM find time for them amid all the headline-making issues like DDCA probe and tussle with Centre and L-G.
