The Delhi Police has denied reports of tension in some parts of Delhi and said that rumors were being spread on social media by anti-social elements with the aim of causing panic among the residents on Sunday evening. It said that the situation in the capital was peaceful and requested the residents not to heed the rumors and act responsibly.
Seven metro stations – Nangloi, Surajmal Stadium, Badarpur, Tughlakabad, Uttam Nagar West, Nawada and Patel Nagar – were closed before the rumors reported by the police. These stations opened within an hour.
The Delhi Police soon responded by saying that reports of tension in the south-east and west districts were circulated on social media, but they were all rumors.
“Some unsatisfying reports of tense situation in the Southeast and West District are being circulated on social media. It is to say that these are all rumors, ”a tweet from the Delhi Police official account said.

It was also said that the police force was closely monitoring the social media accounts which were allegedly spreading rumors.
“Ignore such rumors. The Delhi Police are closely monitoring accounts spreading rumors and taking action.
After this, an appeal was made to all the residents in the national capital to work responsibly and help in maintaining peace.
“It is seen that some chaotic elements are spreading rumors with a view to disturbing the peace. Residents should neither spread rumors or believe them. Delhi’s law and order are fully controlled and peaceful, ”Delhi Police tweeted.
Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir also took to Twitter to issue an appeal for peace saying that everything is normal.
“I urge all Delhiites not to fall prey to any rumors and maintain peace and harmony. Everything is normal, ”Gambhir tweeted.
Senior Delhi Police officer MS Randhawa said the rumors caused panic to the police control room.

“We got some panic calls from West Delhi, South East Delhi, Madanpur Khadar, Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, and Khyala, please do not entertain them. The situation is normal in these places, ”said Randhawa to news agency ANI.
Between 23 February and 25 February, 42 people, including security personnel, were killed and more than 450 people were injured in the Delhi riots. As many as 203 cases against rioters were registered till Saturday evening, including 24 cases of murder.
Police said there were no deaths related to the riots on Saturday, but a shop was set on fire in the Welcome area.
