Applications for Haj can also be made online and through the Haj Mobile App with modern facilities. He said that this time Indian Haj pilgrims will also encourage ‘Vocal for Local’ and Haj pilgrims will go on essential Haj pilgrimage with indigenous goods.
Earlier, Haj pilgrims used to buy sheets-pillows-towels, umbrellas, and other items in Saudi Arabia in foreign currency. This time most of these indigenous goods will be bought in India in Indian currency. While these goods will be available in India at about 50 percent lower prices, it will give a boost to Swadeshi and ‘Vocal for Local’. All these items will be given to Haj pilgrims at their designated embarkation points.
Naqvi said that for decades, Haj pilgrims used to buy all these items in Saudi Arabia in foreign currency, the interesting thing is that most of these items were ‘Made in India’, which various companies bought from India at double, triple the price. Two lakh Haj pilgrims from India go on Haj pilgrimage every year. The Union Minister said that the selection process of the people willing to perform Hajj will be in accordance with the corona protocol, guidelines, and parameters to be taken by both the doses of corona vaccine and the time of Hajj 2022 by the governments of India and Saudi Arabia. Naqvi said that the entire process of Haj 2022 is being done according to the eligibility criteria, age criteria, health condition and other necessary guidelines to be decided by the Government of Saudi Arabia and the Government of India. Naqvi said that all Haj pilgrims will also be given the facility of the digital health card, ‘messiah health facility, ‘e-luggage tagging’ to provide information on bulking/transportation of stay in Mecca-Medina in India. Naqvi said that without ‘Mehram’ (male relative) around 3000 women had applied for Haj 2020-2021.
