POLICE said a double-decker bus caught fire with more than 50 people in a truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district on Friday night.

According to initial reports, some passengers were feared trapped inside the bus.

“Fire tenderers are trying to control the fire. There can be casualties because people are inside. It is unclear how many are there or how many are hurt. This will be clear only after the fire is under control. A police officer said the bus was private and crashed into the truck

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath rushed the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Kannauj to the accident site to supervise rescue and relief operations.

The official said that it was a private double-decker bus operated by Vimal Bus Service.

This bus used to go from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, to Chibramau in UP via Farrukhabad.
