Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal have been issued a notice by the Election Commission for posting a questionable video on its Twitter handle, showing the opposition with the ability to promote enmity on the basis of religion, caste or religion. Kejriwal has been asked to reply to the notice before 5.00 pm on Saturday, the day of polling in Delhi.

The video allegedly shows that Kejriwal and his party were contesting the development issue, while others were busy talking about “Hindu-Muslim”, “CAA” and “temple-mosque”.

The Election Commission notice stated that the video had the potential to disturb communal harmony, which exacerbates existing differences between social and religious communities and appeals to equal amounts of caste or communal sentiments.

Section 125 of the Representation of the People’s Act prohibits candidates and political parties from promoting enmity using community, religion, caste, caste, language and provides for a maximum of three years in prison for those found guilty.

Kejriwal has become the latest high-profile leader to appear in the list of people who have been asked by the Election Commission to explain their conduct.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister Anurag Thakur, MP Parvesh Verma also Kapil Mishra are some of the BJP leaders who have found themselves in the line of fire from the poll panel.

Yogi Adityanath was asked yesterday to explain his remarks that Arvind Kejriwal was in the habit of allegedly feeding biryani to anti-nationals like those opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. He was asked to give his response by 5 pm on Friday evening.
