On Sunday evening when violence inside the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus was at its peak, Vasant Kunj police station officials were starting a process to book JNU Students Union President Aish Ghosh and other leaders.

The timestamp in the first information report or FIR show was filed by the Delhi Police, criticizing it for not taking timely action to stop the violence, at 8.53 am when a masked mob beat up students and teachers and the property of JNU Of barbarism with.

Aisha Ghosh, who was killed by the attackers on her head on Sunday, and other students were booked on Saturday for allegedly damaging the server room and security guards.
The JNU campus comes under the jurisdiction of Vasant Kunj Police Station and the officers are tasked to ensure a smooth law and order in the premises.

An FIR has been lodged on the complaint of JNU security personnel. According to the complaint, the admission process was stopped on 3 January and 4 January due to the lockout of the Demonstration and Communication Services (CIS) building by the protesting students.

The complainant has stated that when some of them along with CIS staff tried to enter the building, they were allegedly bullied and intimidated by the students, including Aish Ghosh and Saketh Moon, vice president of the Students Union.

Others including Aish Ghosh and Saket Moon have also been accused of breaking glass doors and fiber optic cables.

More than 40 hours after the incident, police are yet to arrest a man from the crowd who entered the campus and beat up students and teachers.

A team from the Crime Branch, which has taken up the investigation, visited the university campus as part of its investigation.

Police have said that they have received written permission from Vice-Chancellor M Jagdish Kumar to enter the premises at 7.45 pm on Sunday.

However, in the FIR lodged by another officer related to Sunday’s violence, police admitted that they received a “request letter” from JNU at around 3.45 pm, as soon as the first incident of violence was reported.

Ghosh has alleged that the JNU administration impedes the mobilization of students against hostel fee hike with the mob.

He also alleged that when he came to know about the crowd entering the premises, he contacted the station house officer of the nearest police station, senior officials and JNU security staff, but did not get any response.

The Left-backed JNUSU and the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held each other responsible for the violence that continued for nearly two hours on Sunday.

Ghosh alleged that while some of the ABVP people were from JNU themselves, the rest were called.

He said, ‘They sabotaged a car parked nearby before surrounding us. My sister managed to escape, but I and my friend I were caught by the mob. They hit my head with a rod before kicking me. I yelled at them that they couldn’t do it, but they didn’t stop, “she said.

He also named Ashwini Mahapatra, Chairperson of the Center for West Asian Studies (CWAS), and accused him of assaulting students during a protest last week, a charge Mohapatra dismissed.

JNU VC Jagdish Kumar on Monday issued a statement accusing the students of violence, agitating over the fee hike and boycotted semester registration.
