A day later, he tweeted condemning the violence at his alma mater Jawaharlal Nehru University, with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar stating that there was no ‘tukde tukde’ gang when he was a student.

“On the JNU issue, what I have to say, I said yesterday. I can definitely tell that when you were studying at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jaishankar said on Monday that we would see any ‘tukde tukde’ gang, according to ANI, about the situation at Premier University.

The minister was participating in a book release program.

The “tukde-tukde gang” is a term often used by the BJP and right-wing supporters to attack, especially for Left and Left-backed organizations, as well as those who support them. In the context of JNU, it is a term used for those who think that the right-wing is a mindset that calls for the disintegration of India.

On Sunday, Jaishankar condemned the violence, saying it was completely against the tradition and culture of the university. The violence injured about three dozen students and teachers who needed to be hospitalized overnight.

The Left-backed JNU Students ‘Union has accused the BJP students’ organization of pressuring the ABVP to attack and blamed the police for promptly responding to the distress call. The ABVP, in turn, blamed JNUSU of its members who attacked.

On Monday, Delhi Police said that they have collected important clues and the matter will be resolved soon.
