Born on social media, anti-NRC groups walk the streets of Kolkata

While supporters of the Trinamool Congress, Congress, and Left parties were gathering on Kolkata Road on Thursday afternoon for their respective roadshows, to protest the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) on social media A group was born. First to take out their protest march.

Many intellectuals, including National Award-winning director and actor Aparna Sen and actor Kaushik Sen, were largely made up of students and youths who married Esplanade from Ramlila Maidan in central Kolkata at 3.30 pm.

This formula, named Formation No NRC Movement, started on Facebook, which organized several protests on the ground throughout Bengal.

Members have been appointed to district and state-level coordination committees for campaigns against NRC, CAA, and NPR (National Population Register).

“I am on the road because this citizenship act cannot be supported. We cannot allow laws that create division in society, ”said Aparna Sen.

The Facebook group has over one lakh members and most of its organizers are rights activists and members of socio-religious organizations.

In the last month, the group launched an intensive campaign to persuade the ruling party on social media and to stop the work of NPR and the implementation of CAA and NRC.
